Algebra Wizard Disclaimer
Dear Parents/Guardians,
This is a disclaimer about the terms "Algebra Wizard" and "mathemagician." When I started at Belle Isle, some students started calling me the Algebra Wizard when they were impressed by my knowledge about algebra. Since then, the name has kind of stuck (in part because of my nerdy nature), and students today still enjoy using it (in part because of their nerdy nature). Many even say they want to become an algebra wizard themselves some day! I have used this to motivate students and started calling them my class of little mathemagicians.
However, I recognize that the words "wizard" and "magician" have magical connotations. I understand that some people have religious misgivings about magic, so I would like to assure you that I am in no way attempting to teach Belle Isle students any actual magic. While I think there's something magical about numbers, it's completely based on my love for math and not because I'm an actual wizard.
So if you hear your children referring to me as the Algebra Wizard or to themselves as mathemagicians, know that it is part of a fun, engaging game we play in class that has no ties to magic whatsoever.
Thank you and have a wonderful day!
Sincerely,
Mr. Baum-Sehon
